“As the next millennium approached, the twists and turns of ‘This River’ were preceded by the snaky, winding road in this song I wrote back in 1996. Like Frank Bascombe, the protagonist in Richard Ford’s great novel 'The Sportswriter,' I guess I have a thing for life’s anticipations and mysteries, too – especially when the resulting experience is one of awe and wonder.”
